Dokkum

Dokkum is the northernmost of the eleven historic Frisian cities, famous as the martyrdom site of the Anglo-Saxon missionary Saint Boniface in 754 AD, which has made it a Catholic pilgrimage destination.

The city retains a scenic, fortified character, featuring well-preserved ramparts, two historic windmills, and is known as the turning point of the legendary Elfstedentocht (Eleven-Cities Tour) ice skating race.
